Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Apollo XI 30th Anniversary (Ref. 3560.50.00)

The Speedmaster made its debut in 1957 as part of Omega's broader collection, the Professional line. It was originally designed as a chronograph watch for motorsport and timing events.

The Speedmaster gained worldwide recognition when NASA selected it for use in its space missions in the early 1960s. After rigorous testing, the Speedmaster became the official watch of NASA's manned space program.

The Speedmaster achieved its most iconic moment on July 20, 1969, when it became the first watch to be worn on the moon. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin famously wore his Speedmaster during the Apollo 11 mission.

The Speedmaster's reliability was put to the test during the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission in 1970. When an oxygen tank exploded, jeopardizing the crew's lives, they relied on the Speedmaster's chronograph function to time crucial engine burns for reentry.
